History:

Phew limited had its origins almost 20 years ago when Sheriff and Mrs. McGuire set up an informal respite care service with their friends, and with the parents of children with profound learning difficulties, in the evenings and at weekends.  Hence the acronym, 'PHEW' - not an expression of relief, although undoubtedly there was some relief, but rather a description of the service and its providers, namely Parental Help, Evenings and Weekends.

Over the years increased recognition of need and demand meant that the original group of parents, who had provided care in their own homes, saw the necessity to expand. After a preiod providing residential respite care in two small houses in Coatbridge, we moved to the current purpose built hotel-type facitilty which was formally opened in Januruay 2003.
